Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club

The key criteria for this website were simplicity of design and ease of maintenance.

The main objective was to develop an existing single-page website to provide club members with detailed information on the club's activities (race results, race programme, etc) and also to provide downloadable membership forms.

Additional objectives were the provision of general information on the club and its facilities for the interest of visiting sailors and prospective new members. A consistently clean and unfussy appearance allows people to access the content relevant to their specific interest.

The bulk of the site content was maintained directly in XML, dynamically rendered into HTML by the server and cached. An image gallery was produced using a cross-platform desktop application and the results exported to the appropriate section of the website filesystem. Lightweight custom cgi-bin facilities allowed web-based maintenance of the race results pages and editing of role-based email forwarding addresses.

A changelog page was created, registered with a free page-minding service and a brief subscription form to the service was provided on the changelog page. Changes to the site content were annotated on the changelog page and the page-minding service alerted subscribers to the fact.

The implementation afforded a high level of control over both styling (via CSS) and structure (via single point-of-change XSL transformation stylesheets). Content maintenance was performed directly in XML using Morphon's WebDAV access facilities. Simple, powerful and importantly, undemanding to maintain.
